New Grand Jury Subpoenas & Updates in Santa Cruz Arson Investigation
Just a heads-up that there are two developments in the investigation into arsons at the homes of two UC-Santa Cruz research’ers.
Update 12:29pm: The total number of people subpoenaed is now believed to be seven.
1) One person who was a resident of Santa Cruz at the time of the arson testified to the grand jury on May 22nd, 2012. The content of her testimony is unknown.
2) Another person has been ordered to appear before a grand jury investigating the fires. The name of the person has not been released, but it is known that he lives in Seattle. According to the report I received, he was subpoenaed once, and then because of a technicality, was required to be subpoenaed a second time. The FBI has since been unable to locate him to serve the second subpoena.
To date, at least five others (seven total) are known to have been subpoenaed to the grand jury.
The arsons were not claimed by the Animal Liberation Front, or any animal liberation group. One of the targets is not even believed to do research on animals, and all attempts to link these incidents to animal liberationists have come entirely from the FBI and pro-animal research groups.
More information will be posted as soon as it available.

Maybe a pro-animal researcher set the fire to frame the ALF and other animal rights activists. They should investigate the snitchers.
tessa is not an informant. you should really figure out what the fuck you’re writing before you publish it. this is irresponsible and foul. do not trust any information given on this website. you would think that alf wouldn’t be doing the work of the gov’t tearing our communities apart by making baseless accusations and running with them but they are. maybe alf is a front. sad story.
Please, please: read Otessa Crandell’s side of the story before throwing her under the bus.

Whoa, this looks real… and seems like a big misunderstanding. Someone who is friends with pro-animal liberationists (knowingly or not) is asked to testify, doesn’t know why they were subpeonaed, how grand juries work etc. It really looks like Otessa is trying to do the right thing, assuming that what they’re saying is true. It seems very plausible to me that it went down like Otessa says it did (if that’s even their real name!). Maybe folks from Santa Cruz (who peter already knows?) could verify if this person is for real and really did call folks to let them know about the subpeona, what they said etc. I’m kinda trying to split the difference here between healthy paranoia and trying to be appreciative of Otessa for being honest and communicative after the fact. You know, because it would be a shame to miss a chance to build on that and help *all* the grand jury resistors–even if one or more didn’t know much about grand juries at the start of this one.
