Wildlife Biologist On Fur Farm Raid: “No one can convince me there won’t be survivors”
Wildlife biologist tells media: “Mink are wild animals.”
I limit the scope of Animal Liberation Frontline to US news, and haven’t covered Tuesday’s release of 500 mink from a fur farm near Vancouver, Canada. However media coverage of the raid offered one quote from a wildlife biologist that is very relevant to recent activity in the US.
When asked about fur industry claims that released mink will die, Ministry of Environment wildlife biologist Mark Pimlott had this to say:
“Mink are wild animals raised in captivity. They will suffer high mortality in the first few weeks. But no one can convince me there won’t be survivors.”
This raises concerns over why the media is not held to task on these questions:
Why does the media ignore that death is a 100% certainty for animals left in cages?
And why does the media continue to quote fur farmers on the survivability of liberated mink, when they are both uneducated and have every incentive to lie?
“Espero que esta causa ajude a conscientizar esta humanidade de hoje para que num futuro bem próximo não precisemos mais defender as outras espécies de nós mesmos.”
– “I hope this issue will help raise awareness that humanity today so that in the near future no longer need to defend ourselves from other species.”
At least with release they will have a chance.
“They will suffer high mortality in the first few weeks.”
Speculation. Not fact. If they are wild, they will survive on their instincts.
I support ALF! These are people on the front line making a difference! At least the released animals have a chance whereas they had no chance before. Media, let’s expose the cruelty of fur farms and not just do the so called “sensationalist” reporting!
They can better be free, than been killed anyway, by greedy humans !
Better free than been killed by greedy humans !
Run free little creatures! You have been
Given a second chance.
Thank you for setting them free! They will survive on their own!
If I understand the AR movement and Dr. Young’s point – Its okay to release these animals if the majority of them die a horrible death of starvation, dehydration or as road kill because a few may survive? The wildlife expert (a technician of questionable credentials)stated the majority will die but he is convinced there will be some survivors…some survivors. What heroes these AR extremists are Peter…wrong on so many levels.
