Leaked bulletin: Released mink number in Iowa climbs to 500
Animal Liberation Frontline obtains confidential “security alert” for recent Iowa mink release.
Media reports on the recent mink release in Keota, Iowa state that around 100 animals were liberated. However according to a private bulletin obtained by Animal Liberation Frontline, the number is closer to 500.
The full “security alert”, sent to fur farmers by the Fur Commission, is below. These bulletins are distributed via email and fax to fur farmers after fur farm raids and suspicious activity on farms. They are not intended to be read by the public.
The number of mink quoted is a discrepancy of 500% from numbers given to the media. This is yet another example of the actual number of animals released to be very different than numbers given to the media. Based on information obtained in court cases and other sources, the figures made public can be both more and less than the true figure. While insurance fraud is a potential motive for overstating the number of animals released, the motive for under-reporting is left to speculation.
More discrepancies
While the official line in the media has been that this mink release was a “prank” and not the work of those with an animal liberation motive, behind the scenes the fur industry is saying otherwise.. In this alert, the Fur Commission clearly presupposes the action is the work of “animal rights terrorists.”
According to the alert, the mink farm targeted did not even have a fence.

August 30, 2013
Early this morning a farm was attacked outside the town of Keota in western Iowa. An estimated 500 mink have been released. Law enforcement is on site, and the family is in the process of trying to rescue the animals. The farmer did not have any fencing around the mink yard.
This is the third mink farm attack in the US since late July. All farmers are urged to be especially alert as animal rights terrorists are actively searching for, and attacking soft targets. Please arrange nightly patrols if you do not already have them. Updates will be circulated as they become available.

LOL! “Rescue” the animals? Rescue means save them from harm. The ALF rescued them.
Whilst I find farming for fur truly dispicable and would love nothing more than to see evry fur farm closed and the people who own them and work in them pay for their moral bankruptcy, neither can I condone the release of these animals into the wild, where many do not survive and at the same time cause devastation to the native wildlife, this is not how it should be done
STOP releasing these domesticated animals into the wild where they die a horrible death of starvation, dehydrtion or run over by trucks on the roadway. You are not “saving” the animals. You are torturing them.
A “farm was attacked”? What great Keystone terminology! Those leaked bulletins are a hoot!
To Richard and James: Settle down now. Mother Nature forever welcomes back her lost children. Rural Idaho, like most any natural environment, is a melting pot where even cage-raised animals utilize their natural instincts and survive. Individuals in possession of a driver’s license know they are obligated to watch for animals crossing roads unexpectedly–that is part of driver training.
To anyone who thinks that mink will both “die a horrible death” AND “destroy the native wildlife”…
Which is it?
You can’t both eat other animals AND die, if you’re a mink. If they eat the animals, they live, if they die, they can’t eat anymore animals.
You people need to try reading a book on animal behavior, zoology, ANYTHING related to animals maybe…

Mink dying because they were released. My god what do they teach in school nowadays….
Bellilote – Mother nature does not welcome back these domesticated animals that never came from the “wild”. They die of starvation, are run over by vehicles on the road.
Colin – Books area one alternative to those people who do not have the opportunity to live in the real world and experience life as it happens. In the real world (not the Disney World View) these animals die after being released. A small number live for a time killing neighborhood cats, chickens, and anything else they come across. Mink can be very mean and love to kill for sport. One mink will kill every chicken inside a hen house (thrill killing not for survival). This is reality not propaganda from a vegan Disney view of our world.
oh, Bellilote – entering someones land in the dead of night, destroying property, releasing domesticated animals to the wild to a cruel death, spray painting buildings, damaging vehicles, etc. is an attack on a farm. Discussing this in the coffee shops you and your ilk sit in all day it may just be fun and games but in the real world people and these animals suffer as a result of these attacks.
