18 Months Since A.L.F. Raid, Mink Found Living Wild Near Farm
18 months later mink are still found living near Utah farm where William BJ Viehl liberated 650 animals.
Media reports of William “BJ” Viehl’s sentencing last week for the liberation of 650 mink never neglected to mention Fur Commission USA lies about the mink’s fate: Nearly all liberated mink recaptured, the rest “hit by cars” or dead from “exposure”. Take note of this TV report which recites the “death by exposure” fur industry stock-response, while showing open sheds which are clearly not climate controlled (as mink sheds never are). A lie, hidden in plain sight.
This recent blog post by a woman in Utah vindicates BJ, and the action for which he now serves a prison sentence. Here, she writes of finding a mink in her yard, near (from what we can extrapolate from details in the blog) the McMullin Fur Farm in South Jordan, Utah:
The mink kept coming back to check out what I was doing and I kept chasing him off. Luckily he ran into our garage so we trapped him inside and Clint and I armed ourselves with nets and after lots of banging and chasing caught him. He escaped about 5 times but we finally got him in a box.
Sadly, the heartless woman returned the mink to the prison from which the animal likely came:
We debated on killing him but I wanted to give him to a mink farmer so we found one and he was happy to take the mink…
Such reports are not uncommon. Regardless of the opinion of our “justice system”, reports of what are likely liberated mink are sufficient vindication for BJ’s actions, and the nightime efforts of the Animal Liberation Front.

While I understand your passion for animals I don’t appreciate you saying that I am heartless. I love animals as well but mink are fierce and the mink was attacking my animals that I love. This mink was clearly not wild because it kept coming back. It had no idea what to do out on its own. Releasing them is not the way to save them. If there is no demand for mink then there won’t be mink farms anymore. I would also appreciate privacy about where I live. I do not want to be featured on your website and would appreciate you taking the link off. You never asked permission to quote me or use my picture and I don’t appreciate that either. It is great that you have a passion in life but you also need to allow people their opinions.
I love that you posted this. I am sure it’s not really a surprise to anyone intelligent that mink are still being found alive. As far as Tammy goes… I’m pretty sure when you post something publicly on the internet it’s a free for all.
Tammy, I would like to know what you think is the best way to save animals then? Those actions carried out where carried out by people who know that society is to heartless to stop consuming these products.
Peter in no way, as a private blog writer has to have permission to post any sort of information.
The simple fact is, this is proof that everything we are told about liberating minks is false. Minks are fully able to go and live out long lives. If it wasn’t for people like you supporting the industry, driving your cars every place and demanding all these roads, they wouldn’t be getting hit by cars.
I don’t understand how you can justify taking the animal to a farm where it will just be tossed in prison.
let your animals fight for themselves, if you love animals so much you would have not supported the oppression of any animal in the first place and allow them to carry on with their natural way of life.
Peter, thank you for this update.
I get really excited every time I receive an email from the site.
When you put information in a PUBLIC blog you really have no right to complain about the use of that information. That is sort of how the internet works….
It is totally twisted of you to take a living creature to be killed and abused. “A passion for life” is not just an “opinion”. I don’t care what your opinions are- your actions are those of a morally bankrupt hypocrite. If you love animals, why do you limit your protection of animals to only those which are your “property” (ducks that you wrote about)? Is it because actually you just love your property and don’t care about animals?
Hopefully you can see that your desire to protect the ducks does not give you the right to kill other animals. You may not be the one skinning her, but you killed her.

With all due respect ma’am, you gave a free animal a death sentence. I don’t know if you are heartless, or just woefully misinformed but your actions cost this animal its life.
In respect to this site posting your comments, once you do an interview with the press, it’s in public domain and is fair game. Perhaps you will reconsider if the situation arises again. God Bless.
Always interesting when someone puts up personal information on a blog or some other forum which can be read by any person on the internet….and then gets freaked out when someone reposts it somewhere else. This isn’t 1993 anymore, people…learn not to post private info in public places.
Secondly, regarding your comment about supply and demand….If you had limited manpower (or womanpower, if that’s the case) and resources and I told you that you could spend them either trying to convince a few thousand people to stop wearing fur, or convince about 200 people to find a different job, which would make more sense to you?
I am not an idiot I know the laws of the internet. I have never posted where I lived and I never claimed that what this site was doing by quoting me was illegal. I was just stating that I didn’t appreciate it. Again, I appreciate your passion and know that you are looking to do some good. You don’t know me and I don’t appreciate the abuse you and your readers are giving me.
Wow! Tammy, I don’t think you will be getting much support from the readers of this site. They are not quite balanced. I too am a lover of all animals. I grew up on a mini farm, where all our “farm” animals were pets. I raised a pig in 4H, but was the only person to bring her back home and not sell her to market. She lived out her life eating and grazing in the back yard and being part of our family. My pig, like all my animals, were my family and if anything tried to hurt members of my family, I would feel an obligation to ensure their safety. Tammy has EVERY right to protect her ducks. They are HER family. I don’t know if captive Mink can live successfully in the wild. I think releasing them is probably a lot like taking a domesticated dog or cat to a wild place and dumping them. I’m sure their wild instincts might kick in, but doing so isn’t as kind as you all seem to think it is. I feel for the Mink. I hate the idea of these animals being raised for their fur in those conditions. I think Tammy made the best choice she knew how and I don’t think she deserves to be publicly flogged for it. She probably does a lot more for the sake of animals than many of you.
i feel sympathy towards caged animals. i do not live a vegan lifestyle, but the leather and meat i buy ( i am vegetarian) for my husband is usually done with a bit of research first to ensure proper treatment.
HOWEVER, if tammy would not have taken action she would have been a very irresponsible pet/farm owner. ducks are defenseless against something with sharp teeth and claws, and since i know tammy, i know she weighed out her options with a very heavy heart. it’s upsetting to me that your blog failed to mention the danger her animals were in.
you win bees with honey. if you feel passionate and strongly about something, the very last thing you want to do is waste your time speaking negatively about someone when there are so many useful and wonderful ways to inform people about about such an important topic. this just makes you sound like an asshole. a crazy one.
Bottom line what this guy did was illegal that’s why he had to do it at night and try to hide. Mink farming is legal. Voice of the Voiceless will never be taken seriously if they continue to do and/or support illegal activities. You guys need to find a way that makes a difference and gains support from lots of people.
I agree with John J.
I THINK ALL OF YOU ARE A BUNCH OF GOD DAMNED HIPPIES WHO SHOULD GO BACK TO YOUR ANIMAL INFESTED COMMUNES AND STAY THERE STOP SAYING DUMB STUFF ABOUT STUFF YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW, SMOKE SOME WEED IDIOTS!!!!!!
You guys are moronic idiots. Dang, it is illegal under FBI Acceptable Internet Use Policy Laws Codex 493 to post someones personal information on the internet without consent. Also, the “AFL” is a terrorist group that breaks into labs and has fake videos. I sincerely doubt that any militant vegan group would film every second from different film and movie angles that make it look more dramatic in the middle of a “liberation” unless it was fake. At least half of you are doing it for social prestige, and this will probably be deleted by a moderator anyway. Bob
Oh wow!.. A war of the keyboards! Animal Liberation (heros) vs Speciest inbred ‘merica…
Git Ur Ur Ur Ur Urrrr…. Done!
Ok enough silliness.
Tammy, I read on your blog that you recently saw the movie Food Inc.. While I think it’s a good eye opening movie & more of the general public should see it. BUT!… Don’t stop there! The movie is flawed in some aspects, such as free-range. Free range also destroys the land & environment. (and their praising of walmart selling organic is atrocious for more reasons that I care to get into).
I personally reccomend aquiring a copy of the movie EARTHLINGS. Look it up on google for the website info. Hell, I think you might still be able to download it off google. If you claim to have heart, I don’t know you. This movie should be very moving & eye opening.
I won’t waste my time with this crap anymore, you guys are just bias idiots. Talk about heartless.
Tammie, you ARE heartless. Animals are most of the time skinned alive for their fur.
i agree with Amber.
Tammy you are acting selfish, arrogant and rude, i would guess, par for the course for someone whom would return a mink to a fur farm to die a horrible death by electrocution for some imagined superficial vanity.
instead try this: educate yourself, become compassionate and go vegan. instead of the useless pathetic shell of a anti-social coward that you are now, living in denial, and acting out whenever it happens to suit you.
watch this youtube video, and tell me what redeeming qualities this girl has. notice how she is obsessed with greed and dull, childish putdowns more than anything else.

You will never really know what outcome come of your action, nonetheless if you do nothing there will certainly be no end result
I love the comment from John spouting off about this all being “illegal.” Do you really think for one second that the oppressors are kind people and ready to negotiate? No way in hell. Just because what they do is legal, doesn’t make it ethical. As long as money is involved, nobody will ever care. THIS IS WHY THE ALF IS NEEDED.
Tammy, how awful of you to take the time to trap this animal and then give it to a mink farmer. If you had done any type of research you would have found a sanctuary somewhere that would have taken him/her.
As for Reagan doing research before he buys meat and leather. It’s just a load of crap. There is no such thing as “humane meat”.
Wake up and smell the Green Tea Soya Latte.
